hild care center directors who participated in the "More Is Caught Than Taught" program offer comments on their experience:
This program is going to help us to grow children that are more empowered — who like themselves.
When MLICCI [training] came along I had to go through a state of maybe I am wrong and become open to change. It was hard but I listened. It's not about me — it's about the children.
[MCTT] helps to enlighten child care leaders — directors, teachers, and also to help parents to understand it's not what you say to a child but what you do that has a large effect upon the actions and the results you get from children.
I'm more conscious of what I say in the presence of the children.
It helped me when MLICCI did a family day. I didn't think it would work, but we had a huge turnout. They came in to our center and since then I've heard some of the older people call my child care center a family center.
My paradigm has been shifted. In child care there are lots of unspoken things. Not even intentional, but there's a hierarchy — director, teacher, parents at the bottom. But we found out how important parents are. We need to build up the parents.
This work has made [me] more conscious of and vocal about child care policy.
MLICCI has come into the centers in our community and the caregivers changed.
