BREAKING NEWS - MAY 21, 2026 - The Mississippi Department of Human Services’ has announced that it will use Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) direct funding to support the Child Care Payment Program (CCPP), creating an additional revenue stream for child care assistance in Mississippi and advancing a solution MLICCI has strongly advocated for, particularly since the April 2025 pause in the program. This initial $5 million investment in TANF direct funding could help nearly 700 Mississippi families access child care, allowing more parents to remain in the workforce while children benefit from safe, nurturing environments to learn and grow.
