Aug. 3, 2020 - Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment. The story of the 19th amendment is the story of women all across the U.S. working tenaciously over 70 years, employing many political organizing tactics to win the right to vote.
We at MLICCI mark the occasion of the women's suffrage centennial by lifting up the history of the many courageous women who worked, fought, protested, organized, and persisted to win. To learn more about the history of this fight, we recommend viewing the terrific two-part PBS documentary entitled, “The Vote."
We at MLICCI also mark this anniversary by renewing our fight to protect the right of all Americans to vote in 2020. This 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment comes at a time when the right to vote in America is under attack. Too many in our nation are working furiously to thwart voter participation, especially among Americans of color.
We must push back against voter suppression and instead work to make everyone’s vote count. We have to make voting safe in 2020 so no one risks their health in order to exercise their right to vote.
MLICCI is partnering with Mississippi organizations to implement the Voting Project and educate voters in our state about safely getting to the polls in November. To learn more about how to register to vote, how to cast your ballot in Mississippi in 2020, and how to share information about voting, contact us at info@mschildcare.org.
